Most businesses have come to the realization that they have to make changes in their business model if they want to survive today. An excellent example of this is relying on new resources like the internet. For some, this is an immediate benefit to their company. For others, it means making some big changes. One industry that falls into this category is the news and magazine industry.
Traditional Magazines
There have been some very successful magazine companies that have been in business for years. Now with the internet and digital print making such a significant impact on consumers, it means that industries like this have to make some big changes. Many recognized this early on and started making the changes immediately. Some chose to offer their products both in traditional form as well as a digital print. By doing so, they were able to provide their client base options. For others, they made a full transition over from traditional print to digital print and have been very successful at doing this. Then there are some who were just not prepared for such a big change and decided the efforts needed were not worth it.
The Effects
What has to be remembered when it comes to news and magazines that the bulk of their money is made from the advertising. These media outlets would sell advertising spots, and their secondary income came from subscriptions. Digital media provides the same opportunities just in a different way. In many ways, this has created a win-win situation. The media outlets can rely on digital advertising rather than traditional print. For the advertisers, it has given them a new platform for being able to use digital print to scale up their business.
If a company is not going to embrace digital print, then even if they have a presence on the web, it is going to suffer.
