Digital printing is the reproduction of digital images on the surfaces of common stocks such as, photographic paper, film, cloth, plastic, etc.
The differences between digital printing and traditional printing are many.
Some of them are -
- Every impression made by digital printing can be different from the previous impression, whereas traditional printing can only reproduce the same images.
- The Ink or Toner does not absorb into the paper, as does conventional Ink, but forms a layer on the surface.
- There's generally less paper & chemical waste.
- It is excellent for live proofing and very cost effective for small print runs.
There are many digital printing companies around and examples of a major commercial digital printing press include the HP Indigo press by Hewlett-Packard, the DocuTech system from Xerox, and the Info Print system from InfoPrint Solutions Company.
